Happy New Year, everyone, and welcome to 2021! In line with the mission statement CXPA developed towards the end of 2020--“We support CX professionals to share, learn, inspire, and grow throughout their entire career,”--I am excited about the year ahead and our future together. I hope you are, too!
I have never been big on New Year’s resolutions because I assess every day how I can be my very best self, but a former colleague posted something on LinkedIn that resonated with me:
“Instead of New Year's resolutions this year, I have decided to set a one-word theme for the year. I have thought about what I want most from the next 12 months – how I want to grow, what I want to accomplish – and from there I've searched to identify a single word to sum it up into one overarching theme. Who do you want to be this time next year? And what is one trait that you want to emanate? There is your word. That trait is the thing you should dedicate this year to.”
My one-word theme was immediately clear. It relates to my personal life in all respects and is especially relevant as I think about what I want for all of us as part of the CXPA. My word is CONNECTED. I aspire to connect deeply, meaningfully, and kindly in every interaction I have with another human being. I believe that if everyone in the world around us aspired to the same, our world would change in positive and lasting ways.
For the CXPA, “Connected: Strength in Diversity” is one of our Core Values:
- We have a culture of inclusivity and belonging, where everyone is welcomed.
- We encourage, seek out and embrace diverse perspectives and approaches.
- We have an unquenchable thirst to learn, paired with a passion to share our expertise to help one another grow professionally and personally.
As I consider the body of work that we have defined for the coming year, our Core Values shine through everything we want to accomplish:
Community- Community is the process of building connections between individuals in the CXPA community including through Networks, Online communities, Volunteer engagement, and social media.
Content – Content includes all materials we compile, classify, curate, and communicate, most especially the CXPA CX knowledge base, including the CXPA Blog, the Video Series, and our LinkedIn Live sessions.
Career – Career is the category of work focused on helping individuals understand, find, and advance their CX careers, including career path journeys, Emerging Leader Awards, Mentoring, and the Job Board.
Credibility – Credibility is the collection of work we complete to spotlight and add validity to CX professionals and their CX accomplishments, including social media/PR, the CCXP credential, and our awards programs.
I have been talking with many of you directly, and I hear one question consistently: “How can I get involved and contribute?” Throughout the year, we will be posting volunteer opportunities. I encourage you to check them out and apply for any that might be of interest to you. There are also other ways to make meaningful contributions:
- Ask questions, post responses, and share information on our Discussion Forum.
- Get involved with a CXPA Local Network around the globe. In these times, when things are virtual, you have the opportunity to attend any CXPA Local Network event, and there are always opportunities to help plan CXPA Local Network events.
- Sign up to be a Mentor or Mentee through our Mentor Match program.
Every one of us comes together to shape the heart of our association. I hope that every one of us finds meaningful purpose in what we do and uses that to power the way we make positive marks on the people and the world around us. As we move forward in 2021, I encourage each of you to consider your one-word theme and the mark you want to make, whether it be for each other, for your customers, for your colleagues and organization, or your community.
Wishing all of you the very best in 2021!
